Wait…Who’s The Pope?

With all of the excitement of Chinese New Year, I completely forgot about Carnival. Last year in Honduras this would have been impossible to forget seeing as Catholicism is an ingrained part of the culture. But currently, I am in Asia, and anything to do with the church is a distant memory. I don’t even think news of the Pope resigning made any sort of stir here; especially not with the Chinese New Year going on.  On this side of the hemisphere, it is all fire works, feasts and festivals. Come to think of it, sounds a lot like Carnival. Well, minus the alcohol, sex, and debauchery…

Consequently, I also forgot about Ash Wednesday. Now I am not a religious person, but I love challenges, especially ones that require the participant to abstain from something they love. It shows willpower, builds character, and at the end of the day, it is fun.  So even though I am a day late, I am going to participate in this fun game of self -deprivation, and give up beer for 40 days.

Why not wine you say? Well friends, I think that is going a little too far. Plus, Jesus drank wine, and seeing as he loves me, I don’t think he would want me to make such a drastic decision. I mean, WWJD, right?
