Yesterday in Kaohsiung, an odd thing happened. Every Kaohsiungian awakened to clear blue skies, and fresh, crisp air. I don’t know where all of the pollution went, but I’m grateful either way.
In light of the clear day, Dom and I went to the top of Monkey Mountain to watch the sunset. I’m glad we did, because it was the most spectacular one I’ve seen during my year here.
Seeing the glowing, golden orb sinking into the bright blue water made me feel joy and sadness at the same time. Joyous because it was such an epic sunset, and sad because I’ve never been able to see the sun so clearly since living in Kaohsiung, which served as a massive reality check of how toxic the air really is.
Well, thank goodness I have my sweet mask.
